Speaker: Kvinner & Konsertteknikk
In 2013 Norway celebrates the 100th anniversary of its female citizens being granted the right to vote. Appropriately, The Norwegian musical equipment foundation Musikkutstyrsordningen (MUO) are heading a campaign focused on encouraging and promoting more active involvement by women in the more technical areas of the live music business.
Historically, the inclusion of female workers in these fields has been minimal to put it politely. Worldwide this seems to be true for sound, lights and backline technicians, and also in the fields of production and tour management that requires an in-depth knowledge of the inner and outer workings of a production. Why? Do men just love gadgets more than women? Are women afraid of heavy loading and rigging? Can we blame the absence of role models, or is it an issue of industry culture “a man’s world”? MUO has put together a panel that will discuss the challenges facing females in a male-dominated business, as well as the many opportunities that await. Without female recruitment the industry loses access to half of the potential talent out there. In the face of a changing industry, we think this is a topic worthwhile of discussion. The panel will be held in English.
